TYPES OF GINSENG
CULTIVATED CANADIAN GINSENG
CANADIAN (aka American) Ginseng is commercially grown in various areas of Canada and Eastern North America, but not quite as sucessfully as in a small area in Southwestern Ontario near the town of Waterford. This is the area where Rainey Ginseng Farm has been farming ginseng root for over 75 years.
The intensive farming of field-cultivated ginseng is an expensive venture, requiring valuable land, high-cost artificial shade and costly maintenance for four or five years before a harvest. A quality American Ginseng harvest requires a dedicated, experienced grower. Three generations of Rainey’s have proven that dedication since 1947.
Soil and climate conditions unique to this particular area in Ontario gives Canadian ginseng a unique taste, very desirable to consumers of quality root. Indeed, the vast majority of our root is sold to the highly discriminating Oriental market. Now, with online shopping, this superior quality product can be shipped anywhere and delivered to your door in a matter of days.

WILD GINSENG ROOT
Wild ginseng (Panax quinquefolium) grows wild in the eastern half of North America. It is a perennial herb that inhabits hardwood forests. It grows on well-drained, north-and east-facing slopes in predominantly porous, humus-rich soils. Ginseng also grows on southwest-facing slopes, in soil where sand or clay is characteristic, and in forests with conifers and softwoods, but most wild populations thrive in upland, north-and east-facing woods where shade and loam soils are typical.
KOREAN GINSENG
This Asian root has a warming effect on the body, the opposite to North American ginseng which has a cooling effect. Korean (Chinese) Ginseng is not recommended for those with high blood pressure or hypertension.
SIBERIAN GINSENG
Eleutherococcus senticosus is not a true ginseng, but is a related plant. It is inexpensive and generally not considered as potent as true ginseng.
